paloma is an apartment building styled from an old warehouse on Chalmers Street, Surry Hills.
Situated on the south east corner of Prince Alfred Park, the building has had many uses prior to being converted into residential apartments in 1996, one of the first warehouse conversions in the Surry Hills area. In 2013 paloma went through a multi million dollar refurbishment using a contemporary Burley Katon Halliday (BKH) design. paloma brings a touch of Bauhaus to one of Sydneys' most exciting inner city areas.
The building is Strata titled and its day to day running is governed by a series of by-laws. The management of the building is conducted by an elected Strata Committee which is made up of owners who volunteer their time. The Strata Committee holds quarterly meetings and an Annual General Meeting, which is open to all owners.
Throughout its history, the building has been used for many things including:
the Automatic Totalisators factory
the Lonsdale & Bartholomew print works
the King Gee clothing factory
the Mambo clothing factory
a blind manufacturer
housing for returned soldiers after the First World War.
